Prepare Your Skin for Sunless Tanning LotionBathe Your SkinYour skin must be properly prepared for optimum sunless tanning results. Your skin should be freshly bathed, lightly exfoliated, and completely dried.Bathing will remove the ordinary accumulation of dust and dirt, remove the excess oils of the body brought about through perspiration, and remove the loose skin cells that naturally slough from your body. Use warm water to open your skin pores (pores harbor unwanted dust and oils). Use a smoothly textured wash cloth with liquid soap or liquid cleanser with a neutral pH. Exfoliate Your SkinWe recommend exfoliating your skin with a wash cloth that you would use to polish a show car. We do not recommend the use of a rough, or even slightly rough textured wash cloth, since it will remove those cells that have not yet been sloughed naturally (never use a luffa to exfoliate your skin; they are too coarse). The exfoliation should be as gentle as possible, while sufficiently aggressive to remove all existing loose skin cells. Use small circular motions while exfoliating, using light pressure. Rinse your body thoroughly with fresh warm water and dry with a plush towel. Although your skin is mechanically tough, treat it delicately. The gentler you treat your skin, the healthier, and more youthfullooking it will become. When Shaving, Do it RightYou may want to remove your leg / underarm hair before or during exfoliation. Shaving is the easiest method (however, take you time when shaving). We do not recommend depilatories (Nair, Neet, etc) due to their harsh pH. The use of these chemicals, over time, will thin the skin and forever alter your skin's mechanical and aesthetic properties. Waxing is usually not an option since the hair must be at least onequarter inch long for adequate adhesion. We recommend razor shaving, with the caveat that you continually maintain new / sharp blades. Razor blades rust microscopically and may provide a dull edge after a single shave, if not cleaned properly. To prolong the life of your razor, rinse the blades thoroughly with hot fresh water and dry them using a plush towel. This will be more difficult with disposable razors, but they can be cleaned / dried as well. Remember, the blades are made of stainless steel, and stainless means "stainless" and not "stainproof." Every metal, over time, will corrode and leave a dull edge. These dull edges gouge the skin and will make your skin nonuniform and splotchy. Be kind to your skin, and don't try to stretch another shave from a dull razor! Technically, within the same manufacturer, there is no difference between a woman's razor and a man's razor. The only differences are the shapes and colors of their heads, handles, and packaging. Generally, a woman's razor costs more than a man's, but both have the exact same blades, made at the exact same factory, ground to the exact same sharpness, and placed at the exact same shaving angle. A man's razor is usually shaped to induce the look of a tool or chisel and the packaging is designed to induce a feeling of ruggedness or sharp steel. A woman's razor is shaped and colored to induce the feeling of delicate beauty and is packaged to induce the feeling of feminity. Choose a man's or woman's razor that feels "right" when gripped; you'll get the best shave from a razor that you can hold the easiest. Using an electric razor stretches the skin more than the simple razor. Stretching the skin over and over, week after week, year after year, will elongate the skin, causing it to sag and wrinkle. We do not recommend electric razors for this reason (but if you are happy with your electric razor, stay the course). |
