Types of Skin Wrinkles

Skin Cells – The Living and The Dead

Your skin is made up of deep "living" cells and superficial "dead" cells. Every day, some of your "living" skin cells die, migrate to the top of your skin, shed, and are replaced by younger, "living" skin cells. When you were born, the process of a "live" skin cell dying, migrating to the skin's outermost layer, and shedding, took about 30 days. By the time you reach age 60, this process takes about 60 days. Let's be honest – as you get older, your natural complexion becomes dull and lifeless because the cells on your skin's surface are, in fact, older.

However, you don't have to live with wrinkles –– you can either eliminate them, or at least minimize their appearance. The treatments discussed within this website give you an arsenal with which you can fight your unwanted wrinkles.

Wrinkles – How to Reduce or Eliminate Them

Wrinkles are the most common sign of aging. We all get them, and we all want to get rid of them. Unfortunately, there is no simple solution when it comes to wrinkle removal. That's because there are actually three different types of wrinkles, and each has specific treatments designed to treat them.

The three types of wrinkles are: 1) dynamic wrinkles; 2) fine wrinkles; and 3) skin fold wrinkles.

1) Dynamic Wrinkles

"Dynamic Wrinkles" are also called "smile lines" and "frown lines." No matter what you call them, they are the most troublesome of all wrinkles and often are the most difficult to treat. They develop because each time we smile, laugh, or frown, our skin creases or folds in the same way. After making the same expressions time after time, year after year, our skin "remembers" these creases. They are our crow's feet, scowl lines, forehead creases, and lip wrinkles.

Even if this type of wrinkle could be completely eliminated, it will return because you will continue to make the same facial expressions that caused them in the first place. If you have ever seen anyone who has had one–half of their face paralyzed, you may have noticed that the paralyzed side appeared younger. This is because they do not move that side of their face, so they have no dynamic wrinkles.

"Dynamic Wrinkles" can only be minimized temporarily via Cosmetic Procedures for Wrinkles. This type of wrinkle will return within two to three years.

2) Fine Wrinkles

"Fine Wrinkles" are seen on dry crepe paper skin (usually on the cheeks). These wrinkles are superficial and are the result of sun and/or tanning bed overexposure and natural aging.

"Fine Wrinkles" are readily removed via Topical Treatments for Wrinkles. These treatments cause uniform destruction and shedding of your old and damaged superficial skin cells. This allows your healthier, deeper cells to surface while they are still young and fresh. Each of these treatments organizes and expedites the process of skin turnover and helps you reclaim the skin of your youth.

As a result, you will see improvement in some or all of the following areas: pore size, skin vitality, roughness, discoloration, fine wrinkles, acne scars, and skin tone.

3) Skin Fold Wrinkles

"Skin Fold Wrinkles" are the wrinkles that go from the corner of your nose, around your mouth, and down to your chin. They look like big parentheses around your mouth. They develop within the skin fold, which is due to sagging cheeks.

The only way to treat them is by tightening the skin through Cosmetic Procedures for Wrinkles. Just look in the mirror while you are pulling your cheek skin back toward your ears. You will see a dramatic improvement in your fold wrinkles.

After reading the articles within this website, talk to your dermatologist to discuss which treatments are best for you. To optimize results, many people employ two or more treatments (topical and/or cosmetic) which complement each other, such as laser resurfacing and Botox injections. Get a second opinion, a third opinion, and a fourth opinion before undergoing any radical surgical procedure; there are a lot of movie stars who wished they had kept their aging face and body (Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Jessica Simpson, Kenny Rogers, Gary Busey, etc).
